Make it back-to-back Magnificent 7 wins for Plymouth, Calif. trainer

SACRAMENTO — Make it two in a row for Ron Emmons and Olena Oak.

The Plymouth, Calif. trainer and the 2003 stallion owned by Mel Smith and Nichole Scott returned to the Magnificent 7 All Around Stock Horse Championship and went home with the defense of their title.

The duo showed in four events — herd work, reined work, fence work and steer stopping — and scored a decisive win over 11 other entries in the event, sponsored by Western Horsemen magazine and hosted by the Western States Horse Expo at Cal Expo.

The victory paid $10,024, and it increased Olena Oak’s (Smart Chic Olena x Fritzs Oak E Doakie x Doc’s Oak) earnings since his show career began in 2005 to $222,557, according to Equi-Stat. Emmons has career earnings surpassed $750,000 with the win.

Doug Williamson of Bakersfield rode Hes Wright On (Lenas Wright On x Shesa Lota Nic x Reminic), a 2003 stallion owned by Gardiner Quarter Horses, to the Reserve Championship, earning $7,876. Les Oswald of Byron was third on Bob Stevens’s MH On A Full Boon, earning $6,086.

 

The Western States Horse Expo, held June 9-11, featured a horse sale June 9.  There were 89 head that sold, bringing an average price of $2,161.
