Fire source a mystery at Kahoots in Ramona

From the Newstrader - August 18th, 2011 - Newstrader

Ramona, CA – Cause of an early morning Aug. 8 fire that destroyed more than $1 million dollars worth of hay in Kahoots Feed & Pet Store remains unknown, said Keith Ritchie in the store’s corporate office. He added that hay will be available at the Main Street location by the weekend of Aug. 13-14, as an investigation by Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff’s arson unit continues.

The fire that started in a metal structure behind the store at about 2:30 a.m. consumed an estimated 2000 bales of hay and also damaged two homes, displacing the two families – six adults and three children, reported Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler. About 80 people tackled the blaze in a fight complicated by a propane tank next door and houses on each side of the structure. Crews prevented the fire from spreading to the propane tank, but the homes are uninhabitable, Mohler reported.

“It’s been quite a week,” said Ritchie, Kahoot’s Purchasing Manager. “We’ll have hay for sale again here by this weekend. The investigation still hasn’t determined the cause of the fire. We don’t know yet.”
