Calling all Non-pros! The Southern California Reined Cow Horse Association wants you to save the date of Nov. 18-19 for the Triple Crown 2011! The competition will be held at Casner Ranch in Temecula, and will feature Snaffle Bit, Derby, Bridle, Youth and Limited divisions. With $10,000 in added money and buckles to champion and reserve champions in all divisions, you won’t want to miss this exciting event! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite trail horse! Among the finalists is Fallbrook’s own Jody Childs and Me Llamo Altanero (a.k.a. “Junior”). Watch the Sept. 20th episode for their highlights and vote after for #219. Jody and Junior have become largely involved in displaying just how versatile the Peruvian is on the trail and in competition. With strong support and involvement in ACTHA (American Competitive Trail Horse Association), Jody and Junior have taken on riding Peruvians down the trail over all the obstacles in front of them with great success. Me Llamo Altanero was also the 2010 NAPHA National High Point Trail Horse. The America’s Favorite Trail Horse TV series will air on HRTV on DISH channel 404. (Check your local listings on cable networks). Airing will be simultaneous at 5 pm PST on DISH Channel 404 HRTV, HRTVLive.com and www.actha.us. Voting starts as soon as each episode is over at 6 p.m. PST and and lasts for 48 hours per episode.

The California State University, Fresno Equine Science Association is pleased to announce a clinic with Jake Gorrell Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Fresno State Quarter Horse Unit. The clinic will start at 8 a.m. and run until lunch time. Lunch is provided! Overnight stabling can be arranged if needed. Fee for this half-day clinic is $100. The $50,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Del Mar Fairgrounds during the Del Mar International Horse Show. Presented by Villas at Rancho Valencia, this will be a World Cup Qualifier CSI-W event, so enjoy world-class horses and riders as they compete for the top prize! And at 8:45 p.m., don’t miss your chance to meet the riders and get an autograph! Check out the ad on page 77 for details!

The action-packed 26th Annual Industry Hills Pro Rodeo raises funds for children in need on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the Industry Hills Expo Center. Top performers of the PRCA will compete for prize money in events including bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronco riding, calf and team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. Rodeo proceeds go to The Gabriel Foundation, which benefits as many as 10,000 young people in the San Gabriel Valley who are mentally challenged, physically handicapped or come from disadvantaged or abusive homes. The Industry Hills Pro Rodeo is the Foundation’s annual fund-raiser. Families can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, clowns, food and retail vendors selling Western-theme items.
