DEL MAR — Helen McNaught and Karl Cook were the big winners Sept. 28-Oct. 2, as top horses and riders converged on the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the popular 2011 Del Mar International Horse Show.

McNaught, aboard Alison Heafey’s Lariccello, won the $50,000 Del Mar International Grand Prix and took third in the $31,000 ShowBiz Magazine Welcome Stake. The grand prix, held under the lights in the Del Mar Arena, was a World Cup qualifier CSI-W and was presented by Villas at Rancho Valencia.

Cook, riding Signe Ostby’s Uno de Laubry, placed an impressive first in the ShowBiz Stake and fifth atop Ostby’s Jonkheer Z, following up with a seventh in the Grand Prix.

Other top finishers included John Pearce, taking second in the Prix and fourth in the Stake, and Richard Spooner riding Molly Ohrstrom’s Billy Bianca, achieving a smooth second in the Stake and seventh in the prix, riding Show Jumping Syndication International’s Cristallo.

Spooner also took first, riding Iian Ferder’s Wandor Van De Mispelaere, in the $2,000 1.35 Jumper Classic. Sig International’s SIG Zuleika flew into second with Susan Hutchison as rider.

In the $5,000 Italian Equestrian Prix De Nations, Marco De La Torre rode his Antanio to first, with Kirsten Coe riding Ferder’s Vernon G right behind him.

The Jump Del Mar series concludes Oct. 19-30 with the Del Mar Fall Festival, featuring a Halloween-inspired dog costume class, as well as a $25,000 PCHA/Equine Insurance Children’s/Adult Jumper Championship class on Saturday evening, Oct. 29.

Saturday night’s main event will be the California Horsetrader 1.45M Grand Prix, scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.ticketweb.com.
