From Horsetrader staff reports - March 15th, 2012 - Show & Event News

RED BLUFF — The National Stock Horse Association moved its second-largest show to its futurity in August, the NSHA Classic and Bridle Sweepstakes, to Red Bluff this year, and the northern California town teamed up with great competition to pull off a winning event.

Phillip Ralls of Paso Robles was the biggest winner of all, taking the Bridle Sweepstakes on Very Smart Smoke, owned by Billie Jo Baxley, and also the Classic Derby Open on Don Dualuise, owned by Christian Larson.

His win over Russell Dilday aboard Scott and Darnell Trueblood’s Pepinic Chex in the Bridle Spectacular earned $6,865 winner’s purse. He claimed another $6,000 with the one-point Open Derby victory over Ken Wold aboard Daniel Perez’s Mister Dual Cross.

“We are so excited to be in Red Bluff with this show. This is first time for us here and I think the turnout was great and everyone had a great time.” said Gay Lenz with National Stock Horse Association.

There was quite a duel in the Non Pro division, where Tammy Johnston and her Cee Ya and Ramona Wold aboard her Glamorous Chic finished 1-2, respectively, in both the Classic Non Pro Derby and the Classic Intermediate Non Pro Derby. By a half-point, Johnston claimed winners’ share in both classes totaling $2,595, while Wold won reserve shares of $1,945.

Justin Wright also shined. In addition to being a money-earner on Winston Moore’s Wanna Winna Prize in the Classic Open Derby where he finished in a third-place tie with Todd Bergen on Shiners Dun Juan, Wright also won the Novice Horse Open Derby, earning $1,200, and took second in the same class aboard Codie Gonzalez’s Go Hot Starlight, earning another $750.

Nicolas Barthelemy came up from Descanso with Sheri Jamieson’s TR Dual Shine and finsihed in the money of the Classic Intermediate Open Derby and in first of the Limited Open Derby.
