HUNTINGTON BEACH — Ashlee Bond went double-clear on Chela L-S to capture the Grand Prix of Huntington Beach Aug. 10, moving her up into third place in the GGT Series standings.

The fourth event in the $260,000 GGT Grand Prix Series drew a great crowd, and the riders did not disappoint with four clear rounds moving into the jumpoff. Bond and Chela L-S were fast in capturing the blue ribbon and moving up.

“Chela L-S is a hot, but careful horse and it’s so fun to gallop around with her and let her take the fences as they come,” said Bond. “It was a tough course, and was great practice for the World Cups coming up. This is a great venue with world-class footing and you can’t ask for better than that.”

Bond outraced Kasey Ament on Varon by 2.21 seconds for the title. Finishing third and fourth, respectively, were Justin Resnik on Carismo Z and Michelle Kerivan on Aquino 49. Both of those entries had clean fist rounds.

Susan Artes was able to capture additional earnings, placing 12th aboard Karina 445, holding onto her lead in the GGT Grand Prix Series.

Behind Artes at the top of the board with $9,500 are Mandy Porter with $8,000, Bond at $7,500, and Lane Clarke in fourth with $6,750. The GGT Series Finals will take place at the Del Mar International World Cup Week on Oct. 27.
