The Burbank Showcase will honor the tradition originated and then run by Fiesta of the Spanish Horse for more than 20 years, helping the non-profit organization in its quest to find a cure for cancer, the beneficiary cause this year.

The Backcountry Horsemen of California’s annual Rendezvous will return to Norco this year, giving Southern California horsepeople a chance to learn about horsemanship, trail use and preservation and more. The 2019 conference, titled “Preserving Trails for Future Generations”, is set for March 29-31 at the George Ingalls Equestrian Event Center. The BCHC Rendezvous features equine training clinicians, scores of vendors, horse and mule packing seminars, “Gentle-use/Leave No Trace” classes, Western Art Show, awards and accolades, Dutch Oven Cook-off, Trail Challenge, Beer and Wine tasting, Cowboy Church, Youth classes, raffles and auction. There is always lots to learn, lots of fun, and plenty of horses and mules.

The beginnings of BCHC started in 1981, when a group of private and commercial packers met to form the High Sierra Stock Users Association with the purpose of representing horsemen in dealings with the administrators of public lands.

Chelsey Berkstresser has joined the team at GGT-Footing, and her enthusiastic attitude and knowledge of western riding disciplines will help spread the benefits of the GGT’s great products into the western pleasure and western markets. Growing up in the horse industry with a grandfather who bred Quarter Horses and Appaloosas, Chelsea is no newcomer to the equine industry. She showed Western Pleasure as a young girl before turning to working cow horse. In 2009, she represented the state of Pennsylvania and the PRCA as Miss Rodeo Pennsylvania. She currently competes in working cow horse events and is a show producer for the RSTPA.

The very first Tournament of Roses parade took place on January 1, 1890, when Grand Marshal Francis Rowland and President Charles Holder mounted their favorite horses and led the Rose Parade through Pasadena. In 1920, the 31st Annual Rose Parade marked the end of the horse-drawn era and ushered in the innovation of motor-driven floats, powered by electric and gasoline engines. Over the years, the organizing committees have recognized and honored the horse-heritage of this great event. This year, 18 of the nearly 90 participants in the Tournament of Roses parade are equestrian.
Talented equestrians have performed many favorite and iconic roles, from pony races and chariot races, to beautiful horse-drawn carriages and horse-drawn floats.
