Five days of top hunter/jumper competition return to the Del Mar Arena Oct. 20-24 when Jump Del Mar presents the 2010 Del Mar International Horse Show. Special classes will include a $5,000 Prix de Nations, a $5,000 Hunter Derby and the $30,000 California Horsetrader Grand Prix on Saturday, Oct. 23. Top riders from both coasts are preparing for the Galway Downs International Three-Day Event on Nov. 4-7, featuring the first CCI3* ever held in California. All of these riders are heading to the Southern California Equestrian Center in Temecula since Galway Downs’ record and reputation as one of America’s highest-quality events. Plus, Galway Downs offers three-day events at four additional levels, where riders can also compete on less-experienced horses, and the event’s prize money can make the trip from anywhere worthwhile. The cross-country course is designed for the fourth consecutive year by British Olympian Ian Stark. The Galway Downs CCI3* will offer $21,000 in prize money, and all told, the Galway Downs International Three-Day Event will offer $33,000 in prize money and more than $50,000 in total prizes. The 50th Annual Santa Barbara National Amateur Horse Shows are coming soon! Nov. 19-21 will feature the Open Western classes for professional, non-pro and youth competitors in trail, reining, pleasure and horsemanship divisions. Also offered will be trail and pleasure horse futurities, PCHA Showdown, the Glenn Gimple Memorial Stock Seat Classic ,and three Jack and Linda Baker Reining Classic qualifiers! Hunter and jumper classes will run Nov. 24-28, including flat classes, hunters, equitation and team jumper competition. This is the last show of the season — the “Turkey Show,” since it’s held over Thanksgiving week and it sponsors a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving evening. Rancho Santiago is a private practice facility located in Norco that is open to the public and is presenting an Open Practice Obstacle Course. Cost is only $10 per rider, per horse. The course features a variety of obstacles & is designed for the novice rider, offering more challenging obstacles for the competitive Trail Challenge participant.
