RANCHO MURIETA—The West Coast Reining Horse Association held its 2019 Year End Awards Banquet and general meeting on Jan.18 at the beautiful, Western-decorated Murieta Hotel and Spa, with more than 160 members and guests attending.
President David Hanson presided over the meeting, which included introduction of Carson Devine and Lauren Hanson as the 2020 NRHA Youth delegates. Also, Barbi Boyle and Jaimin Kozlowski were welcomed as new directors to the WCRHA board.
JoAnn Campas presented year-end awards, which included championship and reserve buckles to first- and second-place winners in 24 categories and silver luggage tags to the third-, fourth-, and fifth-place winners. All five winners received embroidered vests, sponsored by 7M Ranch.
The owner of the Horse of the Year is presented with the perpetual Morrison trophy, which was commissioned and donated by longtime WCRHA supporter Dick Randall. The award, open to any horse without breed, age or rider restrictions, went to Chics Love Chrome, aka “Chromey,”, owned by Trish Eckhoff. Chromey, exhibited exclusively by his owner in 2019, is a 12-year-old gelding by Custom Crome and out of Homecoming Chic.
Eckhoff, who acquired Chromey in 2017, last year was well in the lead for this honor before suffering a broken leg that sidelined her for the remainder of 2018.
Marion Walker was recipient of two special awards, the Kathryn Cagle “Inspire Me” Award dedicated to the spirit of long-time WCRHA member Kathryn Cagle, and also the Dick Randall Horseman of the Year Award. She was awarded a perpetual trophy as well as a trophy buckle.
Winners of the seven 2019 WCRHA championship saddles, donated by F. D. Thomas, Inc., were high-point earners: Chics Dream, ridden by Mike Boyle for owner Betty McHugh (Open); Rock N Roll Baby, shown by Boyle and owner Pam Hurst (Novice Horse Open L2); Ms Benz, shown by owner Britta Jacobson (Prime Time Non Pro); Revoutioic, exhibited by owner Megan Lynch (both Novice Horse Non Pro L2 and Youth 14-18); Coronas In Hollywood, shown by owner Laetitia Loubser (Rookie 2); and Bills Sparklindiamond, shown by Trevor Skadden and owned by Melanie Skadden (Youth 13 & Under).
