A true ‘bucket list’ item: 2025 Catalina Ladies Ride

From the Horsetrader sales staff

Las Caballeras is a group of horsewomen that gather together every fall or spring for a multi-day vacation with their horses on beautiful Catalina Island. Plans are under way for this year’s trip, and there will be two ride options: a short five-day ride Sept. 26-30, and the full seven-day ride Sept. 26–Oct. 2. Either one is a “bucket list” adventure on horseback. Some notes:

Bring your horse or rent one from the ride’s professional wrangler
• Cowgirl campground is at beautiful Little Harbor
• Horses/camping gear is barged to the island
• Enjoy small group rides in a unique, protected ecosystem

It is a thrill to experience the unforgettable views of the ocean and of Catalina Island, and the camaraderie and experience will make memories for a lifetime. A veterinarian and experienced wranglers will attend to the horses during the ride, which features delicious, catered food, shower trailers and masseuses, and entertainment including campfire music. If you would like to learn more about this fun “21-and-over” event, see the Las Caballeros ad on page 14, or visit www.lascaballeras.com. The email address is: lascaballeras@gmail.com.

Are you ready for fly season?

They are coming! As we know, flies and mosquitoes create many problems for the equine community, including (but not limited to) stress and stress-related injuries, West Nile Virus and Pigeon Fever, wounds and infections from biting flies, not to mention the well-know truth that they create an uncomfortable environment in which to ride and train! Fly Guard has solutions for both your indoor barn environment and areas that are not enclosed (or do not have power). For barns, shedrows and mare motels, Fly Guard’s FG96 automatic, overhead spray system sprays Fly Guard’s own specially formulated blend of pyrethrin-based solution that kills and repels flies and other flying insects. The FG96’s versatility allows the overhead lines and nozzles to be attached to any type of roof line, supported by professionally installed cables, or even trenched in between buildings to spray detached pens or other buildings. After installation, Fly Guard’s licensed technicians will take great care of your equipment through its service program. Professionally-maintained equipment will generally last much longer than self-serviced equipment; however, for the do-it-yourselfers, customers can directly purchase supplies through the Fly Guard website. For areas that are not enclosed or do not have power, Fly Guard’s Tempo Ultra WP is its go-to product. It is a residual pyrethroid powder that is mixed with water and dispensed using a handheld or backpack sprayer. Tempo’s residual properties remain effective for several weeks after spraying although slow degradation may be noticeable after the first week. Recommended spray areas include open pipe corrals, east-facing exterior walls of buildings, trash can and dumpster areas, and tarps and surroundings of manure piles. For more info, see the Fly Guard ad on page 14, or call 800/811-1039 to get a friendly recommendation for your facility.
