TEMECULA — Mild weather, spicy competitors and a great turnout greeted the final 2025 show for the Southern California Reined Cow Horse Association held Sept. 5-7 at Green Acres Ranch.
Title sponsor Roohide Saddlery was at the three-day show with their big rig, helping to fit saddles for competitors and others who rolled up to get Roohide’s advice and expertise.
Friday’s cutting started early at 7 a.m. with Melvin Reynolds taking first on Rollzetta in Open Cutting. Second went to Chris Delmer on Peptos Lil Red Cat. Eric Trostad won in Non Pro Cutting aboard Tommy Mo, with Melvin riding Rollzetta to second.
Herd work classes were quite full with Roy Rich taking first on SJR Smooth Cadillac for the win. The Non Pro Herd Work class also had a big field with RR Bailout Cat and owner Alex Holcomb taking first. Keilani Whitesell took the Youth Herd aboard Half Past Boon, owned by Bryan Bullman.
SJR Smooth Cadillac, ridden by Rich, won Saturday’s Open Bridle as well as Sunday’s class. Limited Open Bridle went to Uno Im Smart and rider Alexandria Zingg on Saturday, with Kristi Berg taking the class on Sunday aboard RedWhiteAndBoonsmal.
In Non Pro Bridle, Cool Response and Chris Claxton won ton Saturday with K’Lynn Jackson winning on Sunday aboard RJ Smoke On The Water. The Non Pro Hackamore went to Straight Savage Della and M. Ragland, with Greer Hartman Greer Hartman riding Kit Kat Sugar Shack to the Non Pro Snaffle Bit title.
Open Hackamore was won on Saturday by Roy Rich riding Smooth and Spicy and RR Bailout Cat and Dustin Turk on Sunday. Open Hackamore was dominated both days by Blinded By Chex with Dusty L. Voorhies aboard.
Half Past Boon with Keilani Whitesell won Youth Boxing both days and Junior Youth Boxing went to Soula Shining Star, ridden by Hailey Harrison. Saturday’s Non Pro Boxing went to Sweet Little Ruby, ridden by Natascha Benz Stevenson, and on Sunday it went to Cynthia Capetillo, riding Hickory Holly Mint.
Sue Carter won Saturday’s Box Drive aboard her Von Halo Nic, and on Sunday, Natascha Benz Stevenson guided Sweet Little Ruby to victory. RR Justa Merada and Candy Flock won the Select Non Pro Boxing on both days.
The Ranch Riding class standouts were Melanie Kykal, riding Smart Rey Kitty in Amateur; Christina Carter riding Electric Java in the Senior Horse; and Caitlyn Showalter riding Especially Smooth for the win in Junior Horse.
Three Spectacular champions earned beautiful buckles by Rowdy Rose. Winning the Open Bridle Spectacular was SJR Smooth Cadillac, ridden by Rich. Kit Kat Sugar Shack, ridden by owner Greer Hartman, captured the Non Pro Spectacular, and Sue Carter took her Von Halo Nic to the Box Drive Spectacular.
Other Spectacular champions included RR Bailout Cat, ridden by owner Alex Holcomb, in the Non Pro Boxing Spectacular; and Half Past Boon, ridden by Keilani Whitesell in the Youth Boxing Spectacular.
The SCRCHA released its tentative schedule for 2026. The line-up includes shows Jan. 9-11, March 13-14 (schooling), May 8-10 and July 3-5. September dates have not been announced. Roohide Saddles will sponsor two trophy saddles in a both the July and September shows next year.
