Alexandria Smith rides Blenheim wins to honor

From the Newstrader - June 2nd, 2011 - Newstrader

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Alexandria Smith, a Canadian rider who caught fire in the Southern California hunter-jumper circuit this spring, has been named the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Rider of the Month for April.

Smith competes in the West Conference Junior division of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series aboard Calira. The month of April was successful for the pair, as they earned first place honors in a Series class at the Blenheim Spring Classic II, as well as third place during the Blenheim Spring Classic I, for a total of 215 points.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series honors one rider each month as the Rider of the Month. The honor goes to the one rider who earns the most points on one horse in Series competition that month.

“We’d like to congratulate Alexandria on receiving April’s Rider of the Month Award,” said George Morris, President of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame. “We wish her the best of luck as the Series continues.”

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series saw competition at five events during the month of April, and will see classes at more than 100 horse shows before the Series culminates in the Year-End Championships at the National Horse Show in November.

The Series hosts separate divisions for junior and amateur-owner riders in two Conferences—the East Conference and the West Conference. Series standings are used to help determine junior and amateur-owner entries for the National Horse Show.

In the overall standings through April, Charlie Jacobs and Leap of Joy led in the amateur-owner standings in the East Conference while Christina Kelly and Camirage led in the junior division. In the West Conference, Phoebe Lang and Ronaldo led in the amateur-owner standings while Alexandria Smith and Calira led in the junior division.
