While up-and-coming talent like Childs made it to the top of the lists, so did some familiar faces as the Southern Californians hit stride in competition and earned SCRCHA, NRCHA and AQHA points. The next SCRCHA event will be the May Sherri Gilkerson Memorial and Big Horse Wine Country Classic in May.
One of those familiar faces was Aaron Brookshire on Judith Young’s Miss Soula Cee, whose 142 in the Open Hackamore earned both the NRCHA and SCRCHA championships. He outpointed reserve B.J. Avila on Magics Miss Olena, owned by Roxane Willingham, for the NRCHA Open Hackamore win, and he topped Tony and Cindy Mendoza’s Shining Trubador, ridden by Tony, in the SCRCHA event.
Cindy shined, too, riding her Cielo Hickory to the SCRCHA Non Pro Bridle win as well as the NRCHA Intermediate Non Pro Bridle.
Roy Rich swept the AQHA Senior Working Cow Horse competition, taking first on Boonalicious and reserve on Half Time Report. Both horses are owned by Rocking J Ranch.
Other newsmakers included Rick Hoffman on his Dry Sugar Chic, winners of the SCRCHA and NRCHA Limited Open Hackamore as well as the AQHA Junior Working Cow Horse, and Ingrid Vangelos, who took her Smooth As A Diamond to both the NRCHA and SCRCHA wins in the Non Pro Two Rein.
