Special to the Horsetrader - March 1st, 2018 - Show & Event News

BURBANK—A little love— the love of reining, that is—was spread around the Los Angeles Equestrian Center last month.

The California Reining Horse Association opened their 2018 show season on Feb 2-4 with its new Sweetheart Reining Show. There was a lot of excitement building up to the event with the addition of Ranch Riding classes to the 2018 schedule. CRHA also celebrated the successes of their members with a a year end awards party during the show.

Along with CRHA jackpot classes, AQHA, APHA and PCHA classes, the sweetheart reining show was held in collaboration with 2 slates of NRHA affiliate qualifying classes. The high point CRHA riders from the combined shows in each category were awarded Circuit Champion and Reserve Champion; with the champions receiving embroidered day sheets from Professional Choice and the Reserve Champions going home with CRHA emblazoned barn chairs. Along with jackpot money earned, CRHA individual class awards included leg boots, duffle bags, groom bags, lunge lines, hoof picks and vet wrap.

The much-requested ranch riding was added to the schedule with a lot of enthusiastic exhibitors entering the classes. They brought a lot of laughter and fun to the arena. Awards were donated by Renee Baker Performance Horses and DaMoores Feed and Tack.

CRHA hosted its 2017 Year End Awards Banquet on Friday night, with president Mike Berg presenting awards. This new forum was a success with most exhibitors happy that it was incorporated as part of the show weekend.

CRHA’s kick-off reining was one of five primary events that the club will offer in 2018. On the heels of the season-opener was a free reining clinic Feb. 10 at the L.A. Equestrian Center that featured Tom Foran, Brenda Brown, Monica Albair and Mike Berg.

Going forward, the CRHA will hold its next National Reining Horse Association affiliate qualifying show, the Reiner Shine event, at the LAEC on June 8-10. Aft er a one-day reining on Aug. 4 in Huntington Beach, the Slide On The Beach, the CRHA will conclude its season with the big CRHA Challenge on Oct. 24-28 at the LAEC.
