TEMECULA—Grant Berg, who inspired many worldwide both inside and outside the equestrian community with his courageous battles with chronic health afflictions, passed away Jan. 8.
Grant, born on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2006, is survived by his parents, Mike and Kristi Berg, his brother Gavin, grandparents Max and Sue Berg, grandmother Tina Bevan, grandfather Ted Brough, and Ian Bevan.
A celebration of Grant’s life was held in Temecula at Carl Stanley Gardner Middle School, followed by a reception at nearby Berg Performance Horses.
Grant’s positive attitude in the face of difficult challenges affected those who knew him. Through his battle with aplastic anemia, a rare condition that prevents the bone marrow from producing new blood cells, Grant was quick to smile, even when he didn’t feel well.
“Grant was the toughest member of our family,” reads a memorial. “Despite the physical and health challenges he faced, Grant was always strong and determined. He taught us to put our head down and get gritty. He was there for us as much as we were there for him. Grant is our inspiration. We love you.”
Instead of flowers, the Berg family graciously asks everyone to consider a donation to Make-A-Wish, Be the Match, or Donate Life America in Grant’s name, as these organizations played roles in Grant’s healthy and happy years.
