PALMDALE — What a difference a year makes!
Horse activity abounds in the High Desert, as was evident by the well-attended classes at the April 18 High Desert Horse Show Association All Breed Show. From Ranch Horse to English to Western Pleasure and more, exhibitors helped make the second 2021 HiDHA event, a double-point show, a success.
“We saw even more new faces, and — of course — it was great to see our HiDHA friends and family come back out to show their horses and have a fun day together,” said Show Manager Heather Mathews. “We are seeing growth in all performances, including halter, Western Pleasure, English Equitation and Ranch Horse.”
Some of the bigger classes included the Country Pleasure and Western Pleasure Walk-jog open classes, both of which were captured by Michelle Lewis aboard Shooter. The pair kept their position atop the 2021 HiDHA High Point Standings after March and April shows. Katrina Jackson-Havener and her WR Annies Berry Wine were reserves in both classes on April 18 and are on the leaders’ heels as the schedule moves toward summer.
In English competition, Ashlynn Compton and Commander captured the largest class, winning the Open Conformation In Hand class to stay atop the HiDHA season standings. Sami Rijal and Annie were reserves.
Ranch Horse had the largest classes, and division standouts included Ronda Mckim and Sobe (Ranch Horse Conformation, Ranch Horse Rail Open), Cristie Jones on Gunner (Ranch Horse Riding Walk Trot Open, Ranch Horse Riding Rail Walk Trot Open) and Tina Ries and Smart Shiney Cruiser (Ranch Horse Riding Open, Ranch Horse Rail 18-o/Am). Karleen Hults rode SFQH Pretty Kitty to the large Ranch Horse Walk-Trot Open class.
The HiDHA will host its next all-breed show on May 23, a single-point show.
