TEMECULA — The Southern California Reined Cow Horse Association’s most popular show of the year, the Jimmy Flores Sr. Memorial, took to the arena at Green Acres Ranch May 14-16.
In Spectacular competition, Judge Bill Enk saw a large, talented field. Finishing both first and third place in the Open was Bob Grant, who rode Nic It Smartly to the Open Bridle Championship with a 149.5 and was third with a 146.5 on Caymus Pepto. Both horses are owned by Cynthia Baker. Taking reserve in the Open Bridle Spectacular was Charles Stevens on his Smartest Hotshot with a 147.
In the Limited Open Bridle Spectacular, Caitlyn Showalter rode Rocking J Ranch’s Short and Smart to victory with a 146. Dustin Turk, riding RJ Preacher Man to a 148.5 for owner Cynthia Turner, won the Limited Hackamore Championship. Paul Bonello and his Trucker Sippin Boons won the Limited Open Hackamore Spectacular, and Joel Jewett rode I’m Smooth and Smart to first place and KK Sugar Twist to the reserve title in the Non Pro Limited Spectacular.
There were a pair of repeat champions from 2020 in two prestigious Spectacular classes. In the Non Pro Bridle Spectacular, Danielle Stanton took Elanaboonsmal to victory for the second straight year, and Sarah Bradley captured her second Non Pro Hackamore Championship in two years aboard RR Rey To Stylish.
Open Bridle Circuit Winners were Stevens (Open) and Tresha Gelter (Limited Open), and Open Hackamore Circuit Winners were Turk (Open), Craig Cowley (Limited Open) and Hannah Warde.
Non Pro Limited High Point Cow went to Jewett and Cassandra Stambuk, while the Non Pro Bridle High Point Cow went to Lindsey Wadhams. Wadhams also shined in Ranch Riding, winning the large SCRCHA Amateur Ranch Riding class on her TheCrowdLovesMe.
In youth competition, the Circuit Winner was Gabriela Wagner, and the Youth High Cow Score was turned in by Hayes Stroschein.
