Survey by district agency could determine future of equestrian park

From Horsetrader staff reports

THOUSAND OAKS — Equestrians are banding together to keep horses in the future of their beloved Conejo Creek Equestrian Park.

Deadline is Dec. 6 for anyone to complete an online survey by the Conejo Recreation and Park District “to assess the entire community’s interests and needs for future use.” Here is a link to the survey: https://bit.ly/2410survey.

“It’s a horrifying thought that this could be the slippery slope of us losing our horse park in the next one to two years unless the equestrian voice is loud right now,” said local equestrian Diana Merville of Thousand Oaks.

The 50-acre property was acquired in 1972 and, over time, has become a popular public equestrian facility with a main arena and several smaller arenas and pens. The facility is maintained by Equestrian Trails, Inc. (ETI) Corral 37, who have added amenities for our local equestrians. Amenities include three bleachers (two covered) that accommodate 120 spectators, three horse arenas and five warm-up pens. There is ample parking for horse trailers and cars.

Equestrian advocates in the area are asking fellow horse people to fill out the survey and also to alert friends in the surrounding areas in Agoura, Santa Rosa Valley, Moorpark, Simi, Chatsworth and Ojai to circulate it to as many horse friends as possible — clearly marking “equestrian” use on the survey.

The survey campaign extends to industry services and professionals, too, such as training and boarding stables, equine veterinarians, tack shops, feed stores and horse clubs.

The survey simply asks what amenities and uses are being used by the survey taker currently and into the future.
