WCRH Summerfest draws Ranch Horse talent to CRC

Special to the Horsetrader

TEMECULA — Tropical fun and SoCal sun converged on California Ranch Company in August for three days of West Coast Ranch Horse learning and action.

On Friday, WCRH hosted an Intro to Versatility Ranch Horse clinic with multiple AQHA and APHA World Champion Bryce Briggs. Attendees enjoyed a day-and-a-half clinic covering all VRH classes — complete with ranch riding, reining, flag work, boxing, roping, Q&A sessions and live feedback. There was a mock cutting/boxing show on Saturday afternoon.

WCRH intends to offer at least two Versatility Ranch Horse shows in 2026.

Immediately following on Sunday, the popular WCRH Summerfest Ranch Horse Show brought a festive twist to Show No. 3 of the Classic Buckle Series. Exhibitors were encouraged to don leis and tropical shirts instead of traditional show attire. The day featured tropical ranch trail, a water balloon toss, and hospitality perks like complimentary show photography from Brooke Louise Creative, Kona Ice, snacks, and water for all exhibitors.

As always, the full slate of WCRH classes included Ranch Riding, Ranch Rail, Ranch Trail, and Ranch Conformation with a division for all levels of horse and rider. Johnny Flores and his mare, Sanjos Nifty Angel, were crowned the champions of the open disciplined ranch rail class, while Amy Noyes and Rushing Dual walked away Non Pro Ranch Rail Stakes Champions. The overall Top Hand High Point for the show was Rosie Cowley riding Mister Pikachu.

Show No. 4 — and the last regular season WCRH show of the year — will be held on Sept. 28 at California Ranch Company. Looking ahead, the 6th Annual WCRH Ranch Horse Rendezvous is set for Oct. 16–19 at the same facility. The Ranch Horse Rendezvous is the grand finale of the WCRH season and a true multi-day celebration of the ranch horse. The event kicks off with a full clinic day, followed by the Lindsay Jerome Futurity and Maturity Day that will spotlight 2-and-under prospects, 4-and-under, 5/6-year-olds, and 7-plus maturities in both Amateur and Open divisions.

Finishing out the weekend will be a two-day show packed with competition and camaraderie — and buckles for all divisions.

Rounding out the weekend will be exciting special events, including live music, banquet dinner, shopping with vendors, exhibitor potluck and bonfire. There also will be Freestyle Ranch Riding, a Costume Contest, the Mikey Harchol Ranch Rail Stakes, Chris Slauson Open Rail Stakes, a Silent Auction, Gamblers Choice Ranch Trail, and the entertaining Ranch Work Team Challenge. All told, it’s the premier ranch horse event in Southern California, and one not to be missed.

WCRH continues to deliver engaging, educational, and ranch horse community-centered experiences — from Summerfest’s festive show atmosphere to the hands-on Bryce Briggs VRH Clinic.

Now, all eyes are on the Ranch Horse Rendezvous, where clinics, competition, and creative class formats converge for a spectacular season finale.
